Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received on Sunday Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry at his residence in Indonesia's capital Jakarta where the fifth Extraordinary Summit on Palestine by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is being held, state news agency MENA reported.

Abbas discussed with Shoukry the latest in the "constant Israeli violations on Palestinian territories," Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

In his speech at the Foreign ministers meeting on Sunday, Secretary-General of the OIC Iyad Ameen Madan "underscored the importance of utilising all available alternatives to resume peace negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis in accordance with a specified timeframe and agenda, and consistent with international guarantees."

Madan referred to two options to jump start talks: the French initiative to hold an international conference to resume peace talks, or the revival the Quartet on the Middle East that is comprised of the United States, Russia, the United Nations and the European Union.

The Palestinian Authority requested that the summit be held following the increase in Israeli violence in recent months and the restriction of access to Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem by Israel.

Over 500 delegates from the 49 OIC member states attended the event, in addition to four representatives from the Quartet on the Middle East, five UN Security Council representatives and three observer countries.
