Egypt's Journalists Syndicate delayed on Friday for the second time a general assembly meant to discuss several important matters, citing a "lack of a quorum," according to a statement by the syndicate.
The assembly was slated for the discussion of a number of issues including the syndicate’s budget, press freedom laws, imprisoned reporters and “violations” against journalists by the state.
The assembly, which has been rescheduled for 1 April, requires that 25 percent the 10,000 syndicate members with voting rights be present for it to take place.
Syndicate secretary-general Gamal Abdel-Rehim said that 220 journalist were present at the Friday meeting.
Abdel-Rehim said that if the third assembly failed to take place, the matters on hand would be discussed and ratified by the syndicate council.
