Goalkeeping coach Ahmed Nagi lauded the current Egypt side for their "great discipline" after they beat Nigeria 1-0 at home to move on the brink of qualifying for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 2010.
Following a 1-1 draw with Nigeria in Kaduna, Egypt managed to beat the Super Eagles at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium on Tuesday, thanks to a second-half strike from Ramadan Sobhi.
The win cemented Egypt's position on top of Group G with seven points, five clear of second-placed Nigeria who now lost hopes of reaching Africa's most prestigious tournament in Gabon next year.
"This is a young team that needed a win like that in front of a team with the caliber of Nigeira," Nagi told BeIN Sports after the game.
"That Egypt side boast very good elements who are quite disciplined. Cuper's half-time team talk focused upon the tactics we used, which they continued to implement very well."
Despite having one game left at Tanzania, after Chad had shockingly decided to withdraw from the group, Egypt have yet to formally secure qualification.
Tanzania's slim hopes lie in beating Egypt by more than a three-goal margin to have the upper hand in the head-to-head record, given that they suffered an opening 3-0 defeat by the Pharaohs in June last year, and overcoming Nigeria in their final game.
