Egypt has expressed its interest to host the 2020 Futsal World Cup, world governing body FIFA said on Tuesday.

The quadrennial FIFA tournament, which was inaugurated in 1989, will be staged in September in Colombia. A total of 13 nations have revealed their intent to host the following tournament.

Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Georgia, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Netherlands, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates and USA all expressed their desire to stage the ninth edition of the World Cup.

FIFA announced that each of the aforementioned nations will now receive bid packs, which include further information regarding the bidding process and the requirements to host the event.

Then the FIFA member associations who are genuinely interested in hosting the competition will need to make formal declarations of interest by 6 May.

The Futsal World Cup, which has been won a record five times by Brazil, has never been staged in Africa before.
