After securing a place in the CAF Champions League group stage, Ahly's Dutch coach Martin Jol announced that he hopes to have Zamalek in the same group.
A last-gasp bullet header from Abdallah El-Said gave Ahly a priceless 2-1 home victory at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium Wednesday over Tanzania's Young Africans, sending them to the African Champions League group stage.
Ahly, who scored a 1-1 first-leg draw with Young Africans, took the lead through skipper Hossam Ghaly in the 51st minute. But winger Donald Ngoma snatched the equaliser in the 67th minute for Young Africans.
Two Egyptian teams Ahly and Zamalek have booked their places in the group stage and they could be drawn in the same group.
"I hope to have Zamalek in the same group of the CAF Champions League group stage," Martin Jol told reporters after the game.
"We know Zamalek's playing tactics well," he added.
The Dutch coach Jol lauded the performance of his team's players as well as fans support.
"I thank players for their performance specially the team's captain who managed to save the squad after the draw," Jol told the post-game press conference.
Manager Jol expressed more than once his wish to see the club fans egging on their side from the stands. Ardant Ahly supporters did not miss the chance to welcome the Dutch boss with a special banner dedicated to him.
"We have to send special thanks to the Ahly fans that were the main reason for the win as without them we could have been out of the tournament," the Dutch coach said.
