Egyptian citizen Sherif Habib
Egypt’s presidency mourned on Tuesday the death of Egyptian citizen Sherif Habib in London and called on UK authorities to intensify their investigations and identify and arrest the culprits, a statement read.
Habib’s body was found burnt, the Egyptian presidency said in its statement. The statement also said that Habib’s family had the right to know the reasons behind his death and ensure that justice is served.
UK authorities have yet to confirm or deny if Habib’s death was a criminal act.
His uncle, Fouad Habib, told Sada El-Balad Channel’s Ahmed Moussa on Tuesday night that Habib was born in the UK but visited Egypt every year and stayed at his family home.
He added that Habib’s body was found on the floor of a garage in London.
An Egyptian foreign affairs ministry statement said that it is monitoring the updates of the case after the Egyptian consulate was notified by the patron of the Coptic Orthodox Church in London that the body of 21-year-old Egyptian Habib was found inside a car that was set ablaze in a garage fire in South Hall.
