Three conscripts were killed and eight policemen injured on Wednesday when an improvised explosives device exploded in North Sinai’s El-Arish, a source in the governorate’s security directorate told state news agency MENA.
The explosive device detonated on the side of the road as a security vehicle was passing by.
The source added that the injured were transferred to El-Arish Military Hospital.
Egypt’s army has been fighting a militant insurgency, mostly against the Islamic State affiliate Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis, in parts of North Sinai for several years. Hundreds of troops and militants have been killed in clashes.
