Egyptian garbage collection companies started operations in Alexandria on Saturday, replacing the French company whose contract has expired, Al-Shorouk daily reports.
Alexandria governorate refused to renew Veolia's contract after the company requested increases in fees and the settlement of some delayed payments.
Several Egyptian companies have been assigned to fill in the gap, with Arab Contractors Company collecting garbage in the western side of the Mediterranean city.
Other smaller contractors along with some youth movements have been assigned to lift garbage in the rest of the city.
