A number of renowned political news TV hosts announced they were leaving ONTV channel just weeks after it was fully acquired by businessman Ahmed Abu-Hashima.

Liliane Daoud, a Lebanese TV host, announced on Twitter Monday that she ended her contract with the high-profile private channel after joining in June 2011.

Daoud's show was among very few TV programmes that gave a platform to political opposition figures to speak freely on air.

Daoud’s decision came less than 24 hours after the announcement of Mohamed El-Garhy -- producer of the famous Gaber Al-Armouty's TV show "Headlines" on the same TV channel -- that he and Al-Armouty would leave after seven years at the channel.

Al-Armouty's daily show covered the Egyptian press and what was published in printed and online newspapers in Egypt.

Last month, ONTV, which was widely known for its political coverage in the five years following the 2011 ouster of Hosni Mubarak in 2011, was fully acquired by tycoon steel Abu-Hashima.

Abu-Hashima is is well-known for his generous financial support of the newly-established Future of the Homeland Party which is widely recognised for its support of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and the Egyptian government.
