Art Alert: Shokran Jazzilan and Eftekasat get jazzy on El-Genaina theatre

The jazz concert is the third in El-Genaina's August lineup

In a double bill, Shokran Jazzilan and Eftakast will perform on 13 August at El-Genaina Theatre.

Founded by Rami Attalah, Shokran Jazzilan is an Egyptian Jazz project, which released an album with the same name in 2014.

Shokran Jazzilan comprises instrumentally of the piano, bass, drums and oud.

Attalah is the main pianist in the Riff Band Jazz Group & the Los Compadres Latin Jazz Group.

He performed several times in Cairo across many venues, including Cairo Opera House, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Cairo International Conference Center, and El-Sawy Culturewheel. Most recently, he performed at Room Art Space on 16 July with two musicians as an Acoustic Jazz Trio.

Founded in 2001, Efetkasat is an oriental and contemporary jazz band that aims to “find a new unorthodox dimension for oriental musical themes through a fusion with other musical styles ranging among Balkan, North African, Latin and Jazz,” according to their official Facebook page.

The band’s current lineup includes Amro Salah (piano, accordion), Samer George (bass), Ahmed Hesham (drums), Sherif Alaa (guitar), Mohamed Aly (violin, vocals, oud), and Hany Bedeir (percussion).

Their most recent album titled Gar Shakal and was released in 2015, and was their third after Moulid Sidi El Latini (2006) and Dandasha (2010).

The band has toured internationally including in the USA, Japan, India, Europe and Africa, and won the Culture Resource Award in 2005, and the AFAC Award in 2009.
