Azmy Mehelba

Egyptian shooter Azmy Mehelba will be eyeing the country's third medal at the Rio de Janeiro Games while the handball team will be seeking to make up for an embarrassing loss to Poland on Saturday.

Mehelba continues his bid towards a medal after finishing day 1 of the skeet men's qualification in third place with a total of 74 points, missing only once in three rounds.

Should he retain his position, he will reach the semi-final where he will be looking to finish among the top four to play either for a gold or bronze medal.

Egypt's handball team stunned Sweden with a 26-25 victory in their second Group B match but played poorly in a 33-25 defeat by Poland, leaving their hopes of reaching the quarter finals hanging by a thread.

They will have no choice but to beat Brazil on Saturday before facing powerhouses Germany two days later.

The Pharaohs lie fifth in the group with two points, on level with fourth-placed Poland. The top four will qualify for the quarter final.

Athlete Hamada Mohamed will feature in the 800m semi final while Anas Beshr starts his 400m campaign.

Ragab Abdelhay also begins his weightlifting bid in the men's 94kg category. Egypt's two bronze medals at the Rio Games came from weightlifters, with teenager Sara Samir finishing third in the women's 96kg category and Mohamed Ihab doing the same in the men's 77kg event.
