Egyptian high-profile boxer Hossam Bakr qualified for the quarter finals of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games on Friday after beating Cameroon's Dieudonne Ntsengue in their middleweight (75kg) contest.
Bakr prevailed with a 3-0 win by a unanimous decision, comfortably defeating Ntsengue with a total of 20 points (10-9, 10-9, 10-9).
The 30-year-old will face Mexico's Misael Uziel Rodriguez, a 22-year-old boxer who won the bronze medal at the Pan American Games last year, in the quarter final on Monday.
A victory will guarantee Egypt its first boxing medal since 2004 even if Bakr loses in the semis.
Because of rules that prohibit a third-place fight between those who lose their semifinals, both take home a bronze.
Egypt has so far won two bronze medals, both in weightlifting.
