Egypt will be chasing a new medal on Thursday when Taekwondo athlete Hedaya Malak features in the Women's -57Kg event.

The 23-year-old, who is currently the world number 3, said last month that she was up to the challenge of competing for a medal after her impressive performance throughout the past year.

She will have an easy test against Doris Patino Marin of Colombia in the round of 16.

In the same round, but in the men's 68Kg event, Ghofran Zaki will face a fellow Arab in Jordan's Ahmed Abughaush.

In Modern pentathlon, brothers Omar and Amr El-Geziry will launch their campaign at Rio in the men's fencing ranking round.

Haidi Morsi also will play in the fencing ranking round (women).

After the fine performance of Inas Mostafa in the 69kg wrestling free style (Women), having reached the semis before losing two successive games to miss out on the chance of winning a bronze medal, wrestler Samar Ibrahim Hamza will be looking to have another shot at a medal in the 75Kg category.
