Argentina defeated Egypt 2-0 in Cairo in 2008
Egypt are likely to face two-time world champions Argentina in a friendly game, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) spokesman said on Friday.
“We have received an invitation to play Argentina in a friendly game,” Azmy Megahed told Ahram Sports.
“The match’s date has not been determined yet, but it is expected to be held sometime following our match against Brazil on 14 November.”
Egypt last faced Argentina in a friendly three years ago in Cairo, few weeks following the Pharaohs’ 2008 triumphant Nations Cup campaign in Ghana.
Argentina claimed a 2-0 victory, thanks to goals from striker Sergio Aguero and defender Nicolas Burdisso.
“We are likely to accept Argentina’s offer, given their calibre. They are a high-profile team like Brazil,” Megahed added.
Megahed also said that Serbia were interested in playing seven-time African champions Egypt, who astonishingly missed out on a place in next year’s Nations Cup finals in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
American coach Bob Bradley will make his debut as Egypt’s boss during next month’s friendly against five-time world champions Brazil.
