A Russian Investigative Committee delegation paid a working visit to Egypt to sign a memorandum of understanding to jointly investigate the Russia-operated Airbus A321 plane crash over the Sinai, the committee’s spokesman said Thursday.

"After the working meetings, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Russian Investigative Committee and Egypt’s Public Prosecution Office on interaction in investigating this terrorist act," Vladimir Markin said.

Markin added that the international investigative committee began laying out the fragments of the disintegrated plane.

"After discussions of the progress and results of the investigation within the framework of these meetings, the parties agreed to continue work together to establish the circumstances of the crash," he reiterated.

The Russian A321 plane crashed in the Sinai while flying from the resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg on October 31, 2015. All 224 people on board died in what has become the largest civil aviation disaster in Russian history.

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said the tragedy was the result of a terrorist attack. The Islamic State terrorist group, which is banned in Russia and many other countries, claimed responsibility for the attack.
