Next week Darb 1718 will screen the Spanish film Salvador (2006), about the the anarchist bank-robber Salvador Puig Antich who was executed in 1974 during the Franco dictatorship, stirring unrest that spurred the end of the dictatorship.
The film, directed by Manuel Huerga, stars Daniel Bruhl, Tristan Ulloa and Leonardo Sbaraglia. It earned 21 award nominations and has won 16 awards including best film, best actor, best director, best cinematography, best editing and best art direction at the Barcelona Film Awards. It also won the best adapted screenplay at the Goya Awards, and Bruhl won best actor at the Seattle International Film Festival.
Darb 1718’s monthly Spanish film nights are curated by Madrid-based Brazilian filmmaker Giovanna Balensiefer, and held in cooperation with Instituto Cervantes, and the Spanish Embassy in Cairo.
