Men world number one Mohamed Elshorbagy sealed a place in Al-Ahram open semis after defeating Simon Rosner 3-2 (5-11, 11-8, 4-11, 11-6 and 11-5) in a five-set thriller on Tuesday.
The Egyptian player came from a 2-1 set down to win the game 3-2 after defeating the German player in the last two sets.
Elshorbagy will face Ali Farag in the semis on Thursday as former Rami Ashour retired from the game with a muscle injury.
The quarters resume on Wednesday in an all Egyptian affair as Karim Abdel-Gawad will face Tarek Momen and Omar Mosaad will play Zahed Mohamed.
