The play First Draft will be performed at Falaki Theatre between 23 and 25 November.

Written by Coleen MacPherson and directed by Sarah Warren, First Draft is a satirical play that explores the contrast between a fast paced world and a futuristic one set in a protection unit in outer space, according to the play’s description on Facebook.

The work was inspired by conversations about war and E.M. Forster’s The Machine Stops, a sci-fi short story about the role of technology in our lives.

The cast includes Passant Bassem, Salma Maher, Noha Elkhouli, Ahmed Achrafi, Ahmed Sami Wizzo, Shady Khalaf.

The award winning play was originally performed in Toronto in 2014 at Camden People’s Theatre and the Mimetic Festival at the Vaults.

MacPherson is the author of an academic book titled Listen, for On Camera Acting, and teaches master's classes on film around the world. She has taught classes in Egypt, Canada, Malaysia and the U.S, and at five universities in London.

The play is a coproduction between Studio Zat and Open Heart Surgery.

Studio Zat opened in 2015, to offer acting workshops in the fields of theatre, filmmaking, acting and dance, and has expanded to offer more specialized courses in both film and theatre.

Open Heart Surgery is an international theatre ensemble based in Toronto and the UK, led by MacPherson. The ensemble focuses on physical movement to explore issues of technology and war.

Tickets will be available for sale at Studio Emad Eddin Foundation starting 16 November, and at the door of Falaki theatre on performance days starting at 6.30pm.

Programme:

23, 24, 25 November, at 8pm
AUC Falaki Theatre, 24 Falaki Street, Downtown, Cairo
