Expired Ink drawing exhibition at Medrar will feature the work of 10 artists, opening on 20 November.

The exhibition follows the international movement 'Inktober,' where for the duration of the month of October artists from all over the world share one ink drawing a day, and post it on social media using the hashtag #Inktober.

The movement was first started in 2009 by artist Jake Parker as a challenge for himself to practice his ink drawings, and it has since grown to be a well known international movement with thousands of artists participating ever year.

Every year Parker posts a 'prompt list' -- 31 words to be themes for October's 31 days -- for those artists who need some inspiration or more of a challenge, yet not everyone is required to adhere to it.

Medrar gathered the following Egyptian artists to showcase their Inktober works: Ahmed Hefnawy, Ahmed Tawfig, Hicham Rahma, Hala El Sharouny, Hazem Kamal, Makhlouf, Migo, Mohamed Tawfik, Mai Koraiem and Nermin Bahaa Eldin.

The artists vary in style, but each goes back to basics, and with the small challenge of Inktober, take a break from their own usual practices.

Yet the artists' work is not limited to technique -- it is still filled with intellectual thought and subjects fed by their own background and their open access to the world through social media and the internet.

The event description points out that the drawings “express this generation’s status.”

On the opening night, participating artists Hazem Kamal and Hicham Rahma will present two live drawing experiments.

Programme:
The exhibit opens on 20 November at 7pm, and runs until 24 November.
