Egypt's foreign ministry has condemned what German police are calling a "probable terrorist attack" which killed a dozen people at a Christmas market in Berlin late on Monday.
Egypt "expresses its condolences and consolation to the German government and the families of the victims," a statement by the ministry said on Tuesday.
Twelve people were killed and tens of others wounded when a lorry ploughed through a crowded Christmas market at the foot of Berlin's Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church Monday night. German police said they were treating the incident as a "a probable terrorist attack."
The ministry's statement added that "terrorism is now threatening the security and stability of people around the world in an unprecedented way."
It called for a concerted international effort to eliminate terrorist organisations.
