A German documentary about Cairo's jazz festival, Cairo Jazzman, will premiere at the Rotterdam Film Festival on Sunday.

The directing debut of Atef Ben Bouzid, who is also the film's scriptwriter, the documentary brings to light the festival and its founder Amro Salah.

Cairo Jazzman also features several other musicians who are regulars at the festival: Michelle Rounds, Carlos Bica, Soweto Kinch, Naseer Shamma, Carsten Daerr, Arabian Knightz, among others.

"Cairo Jazzman, a political music documentary set in the heart of the Arab world, tells the engaging story of the critically acclaimed Cairo Jazz Festival and its founder Amro Salah. Dedicated to the Egyptian people, the film captures rarely seen facets of civil society and everyday life in Cairo. It provides a rare inside look and captures the struggles and obstacles Egyptians, especially the young, are facing," reads the synopsis on IMDb website.

Founded by by Salah in 2009, Cairo Jazz Festival has featured many Egyptian and international artists, and has expanded its activities to seminars and workshops around jazz.  

The Rotterdam Film Festival is taking place from 25 January to 5 February.
