The first Sharm El-Sheikh Arab and European Film Festival has brought together a number of foreign and Arab actors and directors including Czech director Jiří Menzel, Mofeed Fawzy, Omar Zahran, and Soher Shalaby among others, and the Danish Prince Henrik.
The festival started 5 March and will run till 11 March.
The festival features a film competition of six Egyptian movies and three Czech movies that were screened among a total of 11 short films.
The long films in the festival include François Ozon’s French-German movie Frantz (2016) which was screened in the festival’s opening, and Zoology, a French-Russian and German film production.
The festival’s short films that will screen and participate in competition includes English movie Cleaver, Slovakian film New House, Lebanese film Hebal El-Hawa’a (Air Ropes), and Arwah El-Toot El-Bary (The Lives of Cranberry).
Other movies that will be screened during the festival include Egyptian movie El-Raksa & El-Seyasy (The Dancer & the Politician), Czech Republic’s drama film Marketa Lazarová (1967), and Czech film Closely Watched Trains (1966) by Jiří Menzel.
The festival also witnessed a book signing session for George El-Bahgory's latest book.
The festival honoured several cinema figures, such as late actor Mohamed Kamel El-Qaliuby, Czech director Jiří Menzel and Egyptian actress Nabila Ebeid.
