After losing 5-4 on aggregate to Lyon Thursday and quitting the Europa League in the round of 16 stage, Roma coach Luciano Spalletti criticised the performance of Egypt winger Mohamed Salah during the game saying the player has more work to do.

"There are players who can have better or worse performances," Spalletti said in the post game press conference.

"The other day I left out Salah and everyone complained; well tonight with his quality he could have done a lot better," Spalletti said.

Anthony Lopes put in a stellar performance for Lyon, helping the team claim a dramatic 5-4 aggregate victory to reach the Europa League quarter-finals.

Roma were on top in a blistering opening to the second leg -- Rudiger rattling the crossbar from close range before Lopes twice denied Mohamed Salah.

"Overall, the team deserved to go through to the quarter-finals. If we take into account everything that happened over the [course of the] two games, Roma deserved to go through." Spalletti concluded.
