Goethe Film Week

The annual Goethe Film Week organised by Alexandria’s Goethe Institut takes place this year between 2 and 6 May at several venues including the Goethe Institut, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Jesuit Cultural Centre, and Zawya Alexandria.

This edition, titled 'A Matter of Persective,' presents a selection of nine films, including features and documentary films from Germany and the Arab world.

Egyptian documentary films that are part of the programme are One Plus One Makes a Pharaoh’s Chocolate Cake, directed by Marouan Omara and Islam Kamal, Little Eagles, directed Mohamed Rashad, and Egyptian Jeanne d’Arc directed by Iman Kamel.

“Topics this year cover issues of migration, the definition of homeland, revolutions, wars, family, and women in society,” according to the programme description.

Most of the films are having their Egyptian premiere, and some of the Egyptian and German film directors will be present for a discussion with the audience after the screenings.

All screenings are free and will take place in the evening, except for Saturday, 6 May, which will host a ‘Brunch and a Movie’ at the Goethe Institut, with the 1pm screening of the German documentary Overgames.
