Ahly have lodged a complaint with FIFA against Ivorian striker Souleymane Coulibaly due to his unauthorized absence, the club's chairman Mahmoud Taher said on Sunday.
Coulibaly missed Ahly's training session two weeks ago, leaving only a message saying he had flown to London for private reasons, as revealed by football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz.
The 22-year-old later said he sought to terminate his contract with Ahly, a request that was rejected by the Cairo giants.
"We are working to preserve the club's rights, so I asked our legal consultant to prepare a file about the player's departure and it was sent to FIFA," Taher said on the club's official website.
"Ahly is in a strong position in this case especially as the player received all his financial dues and he was never treated badly.
"We will follow all the legal channels in this case to preserve the club's rights," he added.
The 22-year-old Coulibaly, who joined Ahly last winter on a three-and-a-half year deal, scored six league goals after marking his league debut against Dakhleya with a double in early April.
