The Czech football federation has fined its national team players for an inappropriate celebration of its qualification for the 2012 European Championship. The federation’s executive committee fined the squad two million koruna ($106,500) on Monday for an incident that took place after the team clinched a berth at next year’s tournament in Poland and Ukraine in Podgorica on November 15.
After beating Montenegro 1-0 in the second leg of their playoffs, and 3-0 overall, the Czech players chanted a derogatory slogan about former Czech international striker Radek Drulak who criticised the team’s poor performance in qualifying.
Captain Tomas Rosicky has apologised.
The federation said it would not tolerate such behavior in the future.
