Ahly coach Hossam El-Badry has been fined $10,000 and suspended for one game after he suddenly left a post-game press conference in the CAF Champions League group stage, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Thursday.
El-Badry refused to talk to Qatari beIN Sports following his side's 2-0 Champions League loss to Morocco's Wydad, explaining that "this is [Egypt’s] decision. I hope everybody understands my respecting this decision."
El-Badry was fined for “violating directives and guidelines related to media operations of the ongoing Total CAF Champions League,” according to a statement on the CAF’s official website.
"The one-match ban is suspended on condition that El-Badry is not found guilty of a similar offence until the end of the competition," the CAF statement said.
Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain have cut ties with Qatar, accusing the Gulf state of supporting terrorist organisations.
