Romanian coach Victor Piturca paid a visit to Egyptian club Zamalek on Monday amid talks around his taking charge of the team in the new season, the Cairo-based club announced.

"Piturca came to negotiate to take charge of Zamalek next season," read a post on the official page of club president Mortada Mansour.

"The coach made a tour of the club's headquarters with president Mansour and expressed his admiration for the establishment," it added.

The Whites are looking for a replacement for Portuguese coach Augusto Inacio who was sacked earlier this month following the club's elimination from the Arab Championship.

Piturca, 61, left his last post as manger of Saudi Side Al-Ittihad on 21 July last year.

His biggest achievement to-date is coaching Steaua București to win the Romanian league and Super Cup titles in 2001.

The former Romania coach is one of a list of foreign coaches, including former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson and former Belgium coach Franky Vercauteren, who are also being considered to replace Inacio at Zamalek.

The club is being led by Tarek Yehia until a new coach is hired.

Zamalek have had 15 different coaches since the election of Mansour in 2014, including Ahmed “Mido” Hossam, Hossam Hassan, Manuel Ferreira and Alex McLeish.
