Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in the Estonian capital Tallinn on Tuesday, meeting with his counterpart Sven Mikser in an effort to boost bilateral relations.

Shoukry's visit to Estonia is the first by an Egyptian foreign minister and is part of a three-nation European tour involving Russia, Estonia and Lithuania.

The Egyptian foreign minister is set to meet with Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid, delivering a message from President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on enhancing bilateral relations and international cooperation.

Shoukry is also set to meet on Tuesday with Estonia's Prime Minister Jüri Ratas and other officials in the country's house of representatives.

During his three-day trip, Shoukry is expected to promote the bid of former minister of family and population Moshira Khattab for the position of Director General of the United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Russia, Estonia and Lithuania are executive board members of the UNESCO.

On Monday, Shoukry held a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, at which they pointed to progress on the issue of resuming Russian tourist flights to Egypt, which have been suspended since 2015.
