The Breaking Walls Festival for dance, theatre, music and art, organised by the French Institute, will be held between 7 and 17 September.

The festival is promoted by the NUT Dance Company, a Cairo-based contemporary dance company founded in 2011.

The Breaking Walls Festival program includes multiple workshops, performances, small concerts and other theatrical experience, held in Cairo.

Some notable participants in the festival include French choreographer Olivier Dubois, Swiss dancer and choreographer Foofwa d’Imobilité, Egyptian musician Mohamed Shafik, Dutch choreographer Anna Maria Suykerbuyk, the performers of the NUT Dance Company, Swiss dancer Nicole Seiler, and British artist Julia Cheng.

The festival aims to bring artistic performances of all sorts into unexpected spaces; or as the event’s Facebook page reads, “Buildings and public spaces in Cairo that would normally be inaccessible or simply have a different function in our social environment, now become the ambassadors of this festival.”

Program:

Concert locations include:
Room Art Space, 10 Etehad El-Mohamin Street, Garden City

Bardo Clubhouse, Building 2, Road 12, Maadi
(dates are yet to be specified)
