The Bibliotheca Alexandrina will screen Land of Silence and Darkness by renowned German filmmaker, writer and director Werner Herzog, on 15 October.
The screening is part of the Bibliotheca’s October focus on documentary films by Herzog who is considered one of the greatest figures of New German Cinema.
Land of Silence and Darkness is a 1971 documentary written, directed and produced by Herzog about the experience of blind and deaf people.
The documentary focuses on the world of Fini Straubinger, a blind and deaf woman who uses her condition to call attention to others who are similarly afflicted.
The film is in German with Arabic subtitles.
Other documentaries by Herzog to be screened at the Bibliotheca include Bells from the Deep, on Sunday, 22 October, and Echoes from a Somber Empire, on 29 October.
