Syria's foreign minister on Monday hit out at the Arab League for the treatment it has meted out to Damascus, saying it had shut all "windows" during talks to end unrest in the country.
Walid Muallem told a news conference that his government had opened all windows to resolve the crisis grappling the country, but said that "they have closed all these windows."
The minister also accused the Arab League of pushing ahead with a decision to impose economic sanctions on Syria over its crackdown on anti-regime protests despite failing to agree on the "dispatch of observers."
Syria has withdrawn almost all of its assets from Arab countries, Muallem said Monday, a day after the Arab League slapped sanctions on Damascus for its refusal to halt a protest crackdown.
"I reassure you that we have withdrawn 95 or 96 per cent of Syrian assets (from Arab countries)," Muallem told a news conference. "We must protect the interests of our people."
