Egyptian squash stars Mohamed Elshorbagy and Nour El-Sherbini have claimed the men and women titles at the 2017 Hong Kong Open on Sunday after beating their countrymen Ali Farag and Raneem El-Welily respectively in the tournament's finals.
The 2017 Hong Kong Open men's final showed world number 3 Mohamed Elshorbagy beating world number 4 Ali Farag 3-2 (11-6, 5-11, 11-4, 7-11 and 11-3) in 65 minutes.
"We’ve played so many battles in the last few weeks and I want to congratulate [Ali] and all of his team,” Elshorbagy said.
"I'm happy that I am playing well again this year. I’ve done a lot of work this summer and I’m really proud of the way I started this season," he added.
The women's contest was quick, as world number 1 Nour El-Sherbini only needed 28 minutes to beat world number two El-Welily 3-0 (11-5, 11-8 and 11-5).
"This is my first World Series title in almost two years, so it’s special," El Sherbini said.
"I was more fresh than her, so I think that was the difference today," she added.
