The Alexandria Ports Authority decided Tuesday to temporarily close two main ports in the Mediterranean city due to rainfall and "bad weather conditions," state news agency MENA reported.

Alexandria and Dakheila ports were shut down after wind speeds reached 25 knots/hour and waves in the Mediterranean Sea reached 3 meters high.

Officials at the authority said the closure is aimed to "avoid the collision of ships and vessels with one another and for the general safety of maritime navigation."

The coastal city has been witnessing rainfall for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, with a windstorm expected to last for four days.

Egypt's meteorologists say temperatures are forecast to drop slightly across the country on Wednesday with rainfall forecast along the country's northern coast.

The capital Cairo and the Nile Delta are predicted to see highs of 21 degrees Celcius and lows of 15C. Cities of the country's north are expected to see the same high temperatures with slightly warmer lows of 17C.

Egypt's western coast, including the port city of Marsa Matrouh, is forecast to see colder weather of 13C lows and 20C highs.
