Raneem El Welily continued her bid towards a first women's World Championship crown after defeating eight-time world champion Nicol David of Malaysia in Friday's quarter-final in Manchester to become the third Egyptian to book a last-four berth.

El Welily prevailed 3-1 (11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-6) in 42 minutes to avenge her 2014 defeat by David in the World Championship final.

"I'm really happy to be through today, you know that Nicol is always willing to put up a fight, especially in the world Champs," El Welily told the tournament's official website.

"I knew it was not going to be easy, in the second, she came back firing at everything, I just had to regroup and push back."The Egyptian world number 2 is targeting her first title after also losing to compatriot Nour El Sherbini in last year's final.

She will face France's Camille Serme in the semis while El Sherbini will play Nour El Tayeb in an all-Egyptian last-four game on Saturday.
