Egypt's military prosecution has ordered the release of 237 members of Zamalek football fan club Ultras White Knights after nearly five months in detention over a football riot in Alexandria.
The fans were arrested in July after violence at Zamalek's match against Libyan team Ahli Tripoli in a CAF Champions League final group fixture.
The match saw the Egyptian team suffering elimination from the group stage after a 2-2 tie, sparking violence at the Egyptian Army's Borg El-Arab Stadium after the final whistle.
Clashes between the fans and security forces resulted in the injury of seven people and damage to seats and gates at the stadium.
The general prosecution, who initially investigated the case before referring the defendants to the military prosecution, charged the fans with joining an illegal group, preventing state authorities from carrying out their duties, endangering lives, assaulting police, vandalising public property, thuggery and the possession of fireworks.
In May 2015, an Egyptian court of urgent matters banned various Ultras fan-clubs over terrorism concerns.
