Egypt's defence and interior ministers have returned to Cairo after a visit to North Sinai during which an airport was targeted in a missile attack, the military said in a statement on Wednesday.
The military published video footage early on Wednesday morning showing the two ministers stepping off a military aircraft.
They had travelled to North Sinai to inspect police and army forces in the area. During their visit, a missile was fired at an airport near the town of Arish in North Sinai, killing one military officer and injuring two other people, a military spokesman said via Facebook.
The attack caused "partial damage" to a helicopter, and Egyptian armed forces "dealt with the source of the fire," the spokesman added without elaborating further.
The Egyptian military has for several years been fighting an Islamist insurgency based in the North Sinai region. terrorists have killed hundreds of soldiers and policemen.
Hundreds of militants have also been killed in extensive campaigns to root out the insurgency.
