Egypt and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah said on Thursday that he is working every day to achieve his dream of becoming Egypt's best-ever player.

"Since I became a professional, I have wanted to be the best player ever in Egypt. So I know what I want and I know how to do it. I am working hard every day and improving myself," Salah told a presser in Accra ahead of the ceremony for the CAF awards 2017.

The 25-year-old player is a hot favourite to win 2017's African player of the year award ahead of Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane of Senegal and Gabon's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

"Sadio and I have been very close friends since I joined Liverpool. I think we help each other to be better. I am very proud to be here, it is always in my mind that I want to win everything, so I think I will win, but we'll have to see in the future for this one and the next one and the next one," Salah said.

When asked if he chose to leave Roma for the Premier League in order to have a chance to claim this prestigious award, he said "I had two good years in Rome, but I always like to take the risk, I like to put myself under pressure. When the coach called, I took a decision that I would go. I have ambitions and I have a dream."

Salah also talked about his ambitions with Egypt after leading the Pharaohs to their first World Cup since 1990.

"I think we have a good team and we did well in the African Cup and the qualification for the World cup, everybody saw that. I am very excited about the World cup and I am very sure we can make something special," he concluded.
