Artist Therese Antoine will open her new exhibition in Alexandria this month with a musical performance, courtesy of violinist Hossam Shehata and pianist Mohamed Shams.
Antoine’s sculpture installation, titled Momentary Chronicle, will be shown at the French Institut in Alexandria on 24 January, with musical accompaniment on the opening night.
First displayed at the 28th Youth Salon in 2017, the installation earned her a two-week residency at the Egyptian Academy in Rome.
At the Youth Salon, Momentary Chronicle was accompanied by sound art from George A. Farid, with video editing and sound recording by Shadi Farid.
Antoine’s work is an abstraction of the human figure, capturing it in certain movements that convey specific emotions.
Since graduating from Alexandria’s Faculty of Fine Arts in 2014, she has been influenced by Ancient Egyptian art and the pure, geometric forms of cubism.
Her subjects have since developed from abstract portraits to the human figure, with a special focus on her own personal body language.
The sculptor was among the artists participating at the 22nd Aswan International Sculpture Symposium in 2017.
