Egyptian Rights activists and bloggers have called for a demonstration in downtown Cairo, on Sunday 2 January at 5 pm. The protest is to demonstrate their support for the Tunisian people, who have erupted in wide scale demonstrations throughout the capital, Tunis, demanding jobs.

"These demonstrations have exposed the real nature of the Tunisian regime, which has one of the worst dictatorships in the world, even more than Iraq," Gamal Eid, Head of the Arabic Network for Human Rights told Ahram Online.

Tunisian activists and young people have maintained their protest against unemployment for some two weeks now. Al-Jazeera reported that hundreds of people participated in demonstrations in Safakes and Kairouan in solidarity with the youth in Sidi Bou Zid who were attacked by security forces.
