Ahly manager Hossam El-Badry is convinced striker Walid Azaro's has what it takes to return to Morocco's fold, hoping his top-scorer would feature in the upcoming World Cup finals in Russia.

The 22-year-old striker currently tops the league scoring charts with 14 goals following an unimpressive start to his stint at Ahly, whom he joined in the close season from Morocco's Difaa El Jadida.

"Given Azaro's abilities, he is well qualified to return to the Moroccan national team fold. I hope to see him in the upcoming World Cup finals," El-Badry told the Moroccan television.

"He boasts both pace and physicality, reasons why we moved to sign him in the first place."

Talking about Azaro's current goal-scoring form, El-Badry attributed the improvement in the Moroccan's shape to the decision to give him enough playing time when fans called on the Ahly boss to do otherwise.

"The manager always views things different to the way fans see it," El-Badry said.

"In the beginning there were calls not to give Azaro such a long playing time when he did not score so often, but had it not been for my decision to play him regularly, had he not been able to regain his confidence."

Azaro scored five goals in as many games in Ahly's last league meetings, which included a double against Arab Contractors in a 5-2 win.

Runaway league leaders Ahly are 14 points clear of second-placed Ismaily.
