The Egyptian Culture Minister Ines Abdel-Dayem has approved independent theatre company The Storm to travel for a performance at the 17th Slavija International Theatre Festival which is taking place between 9 and 16 March in Belgrade, Serbia.

The head of the Foreign Cultural Relations Department at the ministry, Hisham Mourad, said in the department's official press statements that the minister’s approval comes within the framework of the joint cultural exchange between the ministry and many Eastern European countries; theatre and the movement arts are the most important components of this exchange, he said.

In addition, it is an attempt by the ministry to encourage the independent companies to take their performances outside Egypt.

The company will participate in the festival with a perforance entitled The Visit, which is directed by Mohamed El-Jamasi, and is an adaptation of the Greek writer Lola Anagnusky’s book The City.
