Egypt's Foreign Ministry offered in a statement on Thursday its deepest condolences to the government and people of India over the loss of 39 Indian citizens killed by Daesh in Iraq in 2014, whose remains were recently found southwest of Mosul.

Iraqi authorities have discovered a mass grave with the bodies of the 39 construction workers who were abducted when Daesh captured the northern city in 2014, officials said Tuesday.

In late 2017, Iraqi authorities defeated Daesh after months-long battles, expelling them from Mosul and surrounding areas.

The statement stressed Egypt's condemnation in the strongest terms of this "terrible crime" committed by the terrorist organization against the Indian citizens, and stressed that the Egyptian government and people stand with their counterparts in India in this hardship.

The statement said this heinous act adds to the record of crimes committed by the terrorist organization against defenseless civilians over the past years. 

"This crime also affirms Egypt's vision on the importance of concerting international efforts to dry up this organization's sources of funding and to stop providing training and safe haven for its members," the statement added.
