Egypt has condemned a deadly hostage-taking incident in southern France which authorities have said appears to be a terrorist attack.

On Friday morning, an armed man took a number of people hostage in a supermarket in the small town of Trebes near Toulouse, killing three people and injuring about a dozen others before shot being dead by police.

"Egypt will continue all efforts and coordination with counterparts in the international community in countering all forms of terrorism, and eliminating the sources of its finance and expansion," an Egyptian foreign ministry statement read.

"Egypt also stands with the friendlu country of France against terrorism," the statement read, adding that these “contemptible acts” will not stop France or its partners from combating terrorism, which aims at the disruption of stability.
