Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane won an appeal to be awarded a goal in his team's 2-1 victory over Stoke City in Saturday's Premier League game to close to within four goals of the competition's top scorer Mohamed Salah.

Spurs' second goal against Stoke three minutes past the hour mark was originally awarded to Christian Eriksen, whose free kick appeared to have eluded everyone on its way into the back of the net.

However, Kane argued that he had touched the ball before it went in after towering above the defence.

"Harry Kane has been awarded Tottenham Hotspur’s second goal in their 2-1 win against Stoke City on Saturday, after the club and player successfully appealed to the Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Appeals Panel," the Premier League said in a statement on Wednesday.

"The goal had originally been awarded on the day to Christian Eriksen, but after taking the player’s testimony into account and reviewing the match footage, a three-person panel agreed that the final touch on the ball belonged to Kane."

The England striker has now 25 goals to his name, just four short of Liverpool's in-form Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah with five matches remaining for Liverpool and six for Tottenham.
