Five Palestinians were injured, one seriously, after Israeli troops fired artillery shots on Khan Younis city in the Israeli-besieged Gaza Strip, the Palestinian News & Info Agency (WAFA) reported on Wednesday.

The attack, according to WAFA, was directed against a group of Palestinians near the border fence to the east of Khuza'a, a Gazan town that shares borders with Israel.

The AFP reported that according to the Palestinian health authorities, the men were on a base belonging to the military wing of Gaza's Islamist rulers Hamas when they were struck.

The injured received medical treatment at the European Hospital.

WAFA added that Israel occupation soldiers in watchtowers along the borders also opened fire against Palestinian paramedics.

This incident comes amid weeks-long Palestinian protests in Gaza calling for the Right of Return for Palestinian refugees and in rejection of the US decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and recognise the latter as the capital of Israel.

Israeli attacks on Palestinian protesters have so far left 34 killed and hundreds injured.

No Israelis have been killed in the violence.
