Egypt's Zamalek football club has officially announced the signing of Swiss coach Christian Gross, replacing axed coach Ehab Galal.
"Zamalek president Mortada Mansour announced signing a two-year contract with Swiss coach Christian Gross for $1m per season," read a statement on the club's website early Sunday.
"The club president added that club board member and the former member Ahmed Mortada Mansour held a meeting with the tactician and they concluded the deal," the statement on Zamalek's website said.
Local media said Gross, who managed English side Tottenham Hotspur in the late 1990s, should arrive in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Gouna on Sunday to hold talks with Zamalek over their vacant managerial seat.
Zamalek signed Gross to be a replacement to Ehab Galal, who was dismissed after a string of poor results that included a shock exit from the African Confederation Cup at the first hurdle after a shootout defeat to Ethiopia's Wolaitta Dicha.
The 63-year-old Gross is expected to take charge of the team at the end of the season, with caretaker coach Khaled Galal likely to lead them in the Egypt Cup.
Gross has won two Swiss league titles with Grasshopper, four with Basel and a Saudi league crown with Al-Ahli.
