Egypt and Liverpool star winger Mohamed Salah declined to be compared with Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, saying he had a target in his mind that he is working to achieve.

"No, not for me," Salah said modestly when it was suggested that his goalscoring exploits had put him on par with Messi and Ronaldo during an interview with CNN Inside the Middle East.

"I knew from the beginning of the season that I had a target [for goals] in my mind," Salah said.

"I will keep it until the end of the season and then I will say what it is," he concluded.

The 25-year-old Salah, who is an iconic figure in Egypt, has won the PFA and Writers' Player of the Year in the Premier League and is already seen as a serious contender for this year's Ballon d'Or.

"I'm happy about what I have accomplished until now, and I want to keep doing that until the last game, so yeah, we're going to see. We will do another interview at the end of the season! It's fine," The Egyptian star said.

Salah revealed that Brazilian Ronaldo and Francesco Totti are his two football idols.

"He's [Totti] unbelievable. He's quality -- both as a person and a player. He's calm, which is great, but has a very quiet confidence. I learned a lot from him," Salah said during his interview with CNN.

The Pharaohs' winger explained what his now-trademark Liverpool celebration means as part of his routine, which involves falling to his knees and pressing his head to the turf.

"No. It's not kissing the ground," Salah said.

"Something like praying or thanking God for what I have received, but yeah, it's just praying and praying for a win. [I’ve] always done that since I was young, everywhere," he explained.
