Rainfall is expected across much of Egypt over the coming three days, as temperatures continue to drop after a heatwave last week, the country's weather forecasters said.

Rain is expected along the country's northern coast, in the Nile Delta, and in South Sinai on Sunday, with highs estimated at 32 degrees Celsius and lows at 19 C in Cairo, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority said on its official website.

Rain is expected across most of the country on Monday, the EMA said, and then in the coastal cities in the country's north on Tuesday, the authority said. Gusty sand- and dust-rattling winds are expected in the south on Tuesday.

Colder temperatures are forecast across several parts of the country on Monday. Cairo and the Nile Delta cities are predicted to see highs of 31 C and lows of 18 C.

The country's northern coast is expected to see colder weather, with highs of 24-26 C and lows of 17-18 C.

Tuesday is expected to see highs drop by 1-3 degrees across much of the country, and by 8 degrees in the southern part of Upper Egypt, often the country's warmest region, to hit highs of 35 C.

Winds will cause disturbances in navigation in the western Mediterranean Sea and the Gulf of Suez on Monday and the Red Sea and the Western Mediterranean on Tuesday, the authority added.
