Egypt is witnessing extremely hot weather on Friday as the holy fasting month of Ramadan enters its second day.

In an official statement, the country’s meteorological authority (EMA) said hot weather would be witnessed nationwide, with temperatures expected to drop at night.

There will be a possibility of rain in Southern and Central Sinai.

Cairo is expected to see a high of 38 and a low of 21 Celsius, while Alexandria will see a high of 30 and a low of 22.

During the day, temperatures in Aswan and Luxor will reach 41 and 40 respectively, dropping to lows of 25 and 24 degrees at night.

Last week, the EMA said Egypt would experience a multi-day heatwave starting Thursday, which also marked the start of Ramadan.

The heatwave is expected to continue through Tuesday.

Forecasters said the weather would be "very hot" during daylight hours, when Muslims fast. This year, those practicing will abstain from food and drink for 15 hours daily.
